Fuchi Kashira

What is Fuchi-Kashira?

Fuchi-Kashira (縁頭 / ふちがしら) refers to a matching pair of sword fittings used on the handle (tsuka) of a traditional Japanese sword such as a katana or wakizashi. Together, they consist of:

• Fuchi (縁) – the collar at the base of the handle (next to the guard / tsuba)

• Kashira (頭) – the pommel cap at the end of the handle

They serve both structural and decorative purposes, reinforcing the handle and showcasing fine metalwork.
