What is a Maru Blade?
A Maru blade refers to a Japanese sword constructed from a single piece of steel. In Japanese, this method is known as Maru-zukuri（丸造）, meaning “solid construction.” It is the simplest and most straightforward of all traditional blade forging techniques.
A Maru blade is forged entirely from a single steel type, offering a clean and efficient construction. While less complex than layered techniques, a well-forged Maru blade can still deliver excellent performance—especially when made with high-quality modern steels and expert heat treatment.
