This handcrafted saya features a fine Kuro-ishime-nuri (黒石目塗) finish—a traditional black lacquer surface textured with fine stone-like granules. Unlike glossy lacquer styles, the ishime technique creates a matte, tactile appearance that evokes the natural resilience of stone. The koiguchi (mouth), kurigata (cord knob), and kojiri (end cap) are crafted from polished natural horn, ensuring structural strength and organic beauty.
